James Van Der Beek will play himself in the ABC comedy project Apartment 23, the network confirms to TVGuide.com.
Krysten Ritter moves into ABC's Apartment 23 pilot
Van Der Beek has been cast as a heightened version of himself in the series pilot (formerly known as Don't Trust the Bi--- in Apt. 23) about an earnest Midwestern girl, June, forced to move in with an amoral NYC party girl, Chloe. The Good Wife's Dreama Walker and Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls alum Krysten Ritter will play June and Chloe, respectively.
Van Der Beek will play Chloe's best friend, a part originally written with former 'N SYNC band member Lance Bass in mind. The role will now be entirely re-written, according to Deadline, which first reported the news.
The Good Wife's Dreama Walker lands ABC pilot
American Dad's Nahnatchka Khan wrote and will executive produce the pilot. Modern Family's Jason Winer will direct. Dave Hemingson will also executive produce.
Van Der Beek has spoofed himself — and his Dawson Leery heritage — in this NSFW Funny or Die video. He most recently co-starred in NBC's Mercy and guest-starred on How I Met Your Mother.
